Central Delhi DAPCUs Response to Mainstreaming

Importance of Mainstreaming Activity:

There are various misconceptions and misunderstandings regarding HIV AIDS epidemic and HIV effected and affected persons in the country. It is true for developed and under developed areas of the country. Lack of knowledge is the main reason for the same. Consequently, it is affecting badly the situation of HIV infected and affected people; in the home, in the society and in the environments where they live and work. 

Through Mainstreaming activities in line departments we can effort for eradication of that misconceptions and misunderstandings about HIV-AIDS at workplaces directly and in society circuitously.

Strategies for Mainstreaming in Line Departments:

·        Identification of line departments for the activity.
·        Ranking of Line Departments according to their needs for mainstreaming activity.
·        Communicate with the authority of the department and taking consent for the activity.
·        Plan for the activity.
·        Sensitization for the concerned department staff.
·        Establishing a cell concerning HIV-AIDS awareness in the department.
·        Inclusion of key persons of the line departments in various committees, groups etc. of  Awareness and      Prevention of the Epidemic as applicable.

Role of DAPCUs:

•      DAPCU can play major role in the District for identification and ranking of line departments according to their needs for mainstreaming as they (DAPCUs) are more familiar with the status & need of knowledge of the staff of the particular department.
•       Communication with the authorities and taking consents are those activities which can be done by DAPCUs.
•     DAPCUs can Co-ordinate with SACS in sensitization activities for the Line  Department.

•     DAPCU can play coordinator role for HIV-AIDS cells established in the Line Departments.
•         Key Persons of Line Departments can be included in DAPCU related Committees at District Level such as DAPCCs, HIV-TB Co-ordination Committees etc. for better co-ordination in the district for the success of AIDS Control Program at Grass Root Level.
•        DAPCU can mobilize the funds for different line departments for the benefit of HIV AIDS infected/ affected people. 
•      DAPCU can coordinate with all line departments in the district to educate them regarding the conditions and needs of PLHIVs and can request them to include PLHIVs in the Benefits and Schemes available in their department.
