Balangir - Response top the theme of the month

Importance of this activity:
In a country like India where nearly 34 million people are estimated to have HIV infection, the issue of HIV prevention no more seems to be related only to a person and health. If we calculate the collateral damage done by this infection to the families of the above 34 million people and indirectly to the society in its productivity and wellbeing ness, it can easily be felt that a more coordinated and vision based mainstreaming is needed involving all available services of all types of Govt. / Pvt. Sector ensuring the access of those facilities to the PLHIVs & their families with a firm policy on building conducive situation to spread the preventive messages for creating mass awareness through all possible means at each level sensitizing the service providers as well as the respective client base of line departments / organisations.

Strategies:

  1. To ensure timely sitting of DAPCC under DC to streamline HIV/AIDS as an issue of practical concern to all the line departments / organizations with specific inputs on spreading the message on HIV through all their programmatic activities / capacity building / sensitization workshop.
  2. To visualize the role of respective line departments / organizations for spreading the messages on HIV prevention and shared the same during DAPCC meeting.
  3. To focus on grass root level intervention of HIV programme to localize the issue and demand generation for knowledge on prevention along with care, support and treatment.
  4. To generate the funds for IEC activities.
  5. To include IEC programmes on HIV in all the related department’s and organization’s public awareness campaign / major cultural activities / training programme.

The Role of DAPCU:
DAPCU has to institutionalize the DAPCC in the district general administration to create a conducive situation where it can liaison with all concerned line departments and organizations for inclusion of programmes / messages on HIV/AIDS control and its prevention.

  1. To establish coordination among all related departments for better achievement of NACP activities, better service provision to PLHIVs like provision of various social benefit schemes.
  2. To resolve the problems related to stigma and discrimination / legal issues involving concerned organizations / departments as and when required.
  3. Obtain the training / capacity building calendar and schedule of mass awareness campaigns of each related departments / organizations and chip in with feasible options of sessions / IEC activities on HIV prevention.
