DAPCU Araria Response to the Theme: World AIDS Day-2013

Various activities were organized by DAPCU, Araria on 1st December’ 2013 on celebration of “World AIDS Day” (WAD) in Araria district, Bihar, as follows-

ÿ An exhibition and beautification of services unit
on World AIDS Day (1st Dec-13)

On the World AIDS day, organized proper display with beautification of ICTC & STI/ RTI center as per scheduled program.

A half an hour verbal orientation was carry out at ICTC & STI/RTI unit regarding program prospective, testing benefits, availability of free drugs and barrier method (condoms), prevention, and issues related to the HIV/AIDS, as well as patients relationship with health care service provider at every steps, by DPM (DAPCU), Araria. 


ÿ  Red Ribbon Tagging on World AIDS Day

Additional Chief Medical Officer cum District AIDS Control Officer, Araria including all district health consultants like- DTO cum I/C ICTC and STI/RTI, DS, DPM (DAPCU), Consultant Epidemiologist, VBD Consultant, DCM (ASHA), DIS and Accountant Assistant tagged Red Ribbon officials and non officials with given focus on HIV/AIDS and distribution of IEC materials, then we reach Mehila College, Araria and tagged Red Ribbon to the Principal, to all professors and students to students.

ÿ  Regarding Rally on World AIDS Day 

On the World AIDS Day the rally was organized participants was students of Mahila Collage Araria Principal, Professors and district level health officers, program inaugurated through show the green flag by Additional Chief Medical Officer cum District AIDS Control Officer, Araria.  On that day rally was started from Mahila Collage and ending point was at the same,  via- Ashram chowk, Shara India House, Nagar Parishad, District Court and Kali Mandir chowk, slogan was “AIDS Ki Zankari Hi Bachab Hai”  “Stop Stigma & Discrimination with people who are living with HIV/AIDS” and regarding right of people who are living with HIV/AIDS, like- “Right for live with family and society as a general people”, “Right for Education”, “Right for avail the government schemes”, “Right for job” and distribution of IEC materials. We all health consultants, and officials were participated in that procession of social mobilization activities on HIV/AIDS. 




ÿ  Seminar on World AIDS Day  
On World AIDS Day (1st Dec.) organized a seminar at Mahila Collage Araria on the Topic of “Stop Stigma & Discrimination with people who are living with HIV/AIDS” under chairmanship of ACMO cum DACO. During the seminar important inputs and technical details were explained by the Medical Officer I/C ICTC and STI/RTI and DPM (DAPCU) covered all issues related to the HIV/AIDS, VIZ- role of youth, regarding awareness of HIV/AIDS and specially focus on stigma and discrimination and right of People who are living with HIV/AIDS is concern and distribute IEC material among all. All participants share all experiences positive side and negative side regarding the topic. 

ÿ  Short quiz on World AIDS Day 

DAPCU have organized a short quiz. Under chairmanship of ACMO cum DACO. Participant was the students of Mahila College Araria, question was based on for awareness and basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS.  

Prize was also distributed among 1st, 2nd & 3rd,  on the basis of  student who got marks in short quiz question among students of  Mahila College Araria. Under chairmanship of ACMO cum DACO. 1st  prize given by ACMO cum DACO, 2nd prize given by Medical Officer I/C ICTC and STI/RTI and 3rd  prize given by Principal of Mahila College Araria.    

 






ÿ About Candle march on 30th Nov. evening.

              DAPCU- Araria participants in candle march on 30th November’ 2013, evening organized by social mobilize NGO, Araria. The massage was sympathy to the people who are living with HIV/AIDS, we are with you and massage for mass, “Know AIDS will be No AIDS”

DAPCU Araria Response to DCC for HIV-TB

1.  Advantages of District Coordination Committee (DCC)

DCC is established in Araria under the
chairmanship with District Magistrate. 
The basic    advantage of the DCC:

      Effective prevention and control of both the diseases through HIV-TB cross referral between ICTC & RNTCP.

      Strengthening for better follow- up of co-infection and helping to reduce LFUs 

      Supportive to attach with services.

2.   TB – HIV Collaborative activities

     RNTCP staff communicates to ICTC staff about TB diagnosis and treatment of all referred clients.

     ICTC staff, on the basis of information received from RNTCP, based on HIV status link with other services for better care support & treatment.

3.      Measures for prevention

DAPCU have devised a Joint Action Plan for TB/HIV awareness regarding prevention & control of both the diseases. 

        Educate to reduce TB- associate
       morbidity and mortality in people living 
       with HIV/AIDS through collaboration with
       RNTCP 

       Stress regarding safe injection practices to ICTC & RNTCP staffs, take in practices of needle cutter after use the syringe and follow universal percussion for prevention and control HIV infection.

4.  Role of service facilities

HIV infection makes an individual more    prone to develop TB disease. ICTC clients are screened for TB symptoms irrespective of HIV status and if symptomatic refer to RNTCP & ART centre for further treatment and care.

5.   Strategies of DAPCU for 100% treatment, care and support for TB–HIV co- infection cases

HIV-TB coordination meeting held regular in the month. DAPCU share block wise data of TB–HIV co- infection cases with the RNTCP department and follow-up regularly by the STLS, STS and NGOs, which is helpful to link with service centers for better care support and treatment to all HIV-TB co infection cases.

1. Why is positive prevention important?

  • Because, HIV prevention programmes not only gives information, but also build skills for healthy living and provides access to essential commodities such as condoms or sterile injecting equipments.
  • It is very necessary to prevent the HIV virus embedding in to new ones to achieve the goal of halt and reverse the epidemic.

2. What are the strategies for positive prevention underway in your district? 

  • Advocacy with the different stakeholders and stress on mainstreaming of HIV/ AIDS is every one's accountability. We are providing training for health care providers regarding essential health care needs of the PLHIVs.

 3. What role does the DAPCU play in this regard?

  • We are communicating to the grass root level health professionals about HIV prevention, during meeting at Block / PHC and APHC level and district level health consultants are also giving support to us in this regards. We are doing supportive supervision in all the peripheral facility centers for giving better support to PLHIVs and also ensuring clear & correct is going to common mass to serve the cause of positive prevention.    
  • In district level meeting, we are convincing all concerned line department’s officials to facilitate PLHIVs in getting all available social benefit schemes provided by the government in this regard.

Araria DAPCU's Response to May 2012 Theme - DAPCC Achievements

DAPCC Advantages
  • DAPCC formation is helpful for strengthening to the DAPCU &helpful to convergence with NRHM for awareness and demand generation at facilities is concern.
  • DAPCC help to provide a platform to integration with government department and other line department for mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS is every one’s accountability.
  • DAPCC provides to supporting for integration of PLHIVs with government schemes, regarding care and support to PLHIVs.

Achievement
Through the DAPCC we identified 4 additional schemes which include MNREGA, and widow pensions schemes. The concerned officials were sensitized through the DAPCC.
