DAPCU-Ganjam Response -World AIDS 2013

The grand occasion was commenced with cycle rally started from City hospital at 10 A.M. The Cycle rally was inaugurated by Hon’ble MLA Berhampur Dr. Ramesh Chandra Chyapattnaik. In that rally near about 50 volunteer of ARUNA participate.

Information KIOSK: - One IEC & Exhibition stall was installed at City hospital campus where all IEC material releted to HIV/AIDS were displayed and some leaf let and Book were distributed. 

Cultural Program (Dasakathia/Ghuduki):

3 IEC programme was organized through Cultural Folk  troupe .Rabindra Satpathy and his troupe  has performed at DHH campus, Gatebazar chhak, and Railway Station.
Blood Donation Camp:

There were one Blood donation camp was organized by DAPCU in collaboration with Youth Red Cross held at Chhatrapur Govt. Science College in which 35 units of Blood collected.

Public Meeting:

Hon’ble MLA Berhampur Dr. Ramesh Chandra Chyapattnaik, Dr. Lalit Mohan Rath CDMO Incharge, Dr Prasanna Kara Ex CDMO, Dr. Nirakara Bhata DLO,  Debabrata Mohapatra DPM, DAPCU, Sri Lokanath Mishra, Secretary ARUNA, Mr. Gupta UNICEF  and   Representatives of NGOs were presented in the  public meeting. DPM DAPCU facilitated the meeting session. In the meeting staff of ARUNA, ASHA, AWW, Link worker, Student and faculty of ANM Training Centre, Media person attended the public meeting.

Challenges  faced :- As it was related to AIDS control programme, DAPCU took the whole responsibilities to carried out the activities.  An inadequate fund was the great challenge for DAPCU.

DAPCU Ganjam Response to the Theme: Care and Support Services for PLHIVs in the Absence of CCCs

DAPCU has faced problems after closing of CCC. After closing of CCC the referral and linkages has been stopped.

No specific measures has been started to replace the services given by CCC.


ON ART PLHA linked to 4 link ART Centre of Ganjam district.  DAPCU has coordinated with the 4 link ART Centre Medical officer Incharge to provide the general medical service along with the ART.

Ganjam DAPCU Response to the Theme- DAPCUs & Stigma and Discrimination

Role and Responsibilities
  1. DAPCU can arrange some awareness meeting in the village level where stigma and discrimination cases noticed.
  2. DAPCU can involve PRI member for sensitization or advocacy releted to stigma and discrimination.
  3. DAPCU can facilitate the involvement of positive network and arrange some positive speaker session in the community level meeting.
  4. Strengthening the linkages with District Legal Service Authority(DLSA). 

Some Measures Initiated by DAPCU to Facilitate Reduction of Stigma and Discrimination
  • Access to services: Facilitating the involvement of Link worker, Outreach worker, peer counsellor and in some time ASHA and anganwadi worker.
  • Health Care Setting: DAPCU has organised full site sensitization workshop with all staff of that institution.
  • District Administration and it Departments: Organizing District AIDS Prevention control committee meeting in every quarter by involving all line departments.
    • Conducted Sensitization Programme in Berhampur Circle Jail.
    • DAPCU has intitited dialogue with Transport Department for charging concessional fare to PLHA accesing ART from Berhampur Medical College.
  • Community Setting: Involvement of Positive network, Involvement of NGOs- Agency for Social Legal Protection (ASLP Project SAATHII), Participation in ASHA Sector meeting.

DAPCU has received complaints from PLHIV regarding Stigma and Discrimination

After receiving complain from PLHIV, DAPCU is coordinating with PLHA network. If this issues is releted to Health care setting than DAPCU is bringing this issues to CDMO knowledge and trying to resolve it. If the issue is releted to Domestic violence or paternal property than it is being referred to one NGO working for a project under the titled Agency for Socio legal protection. The same matter being resolved by District legal service authority.

Achievement: One case of Patrapur block of Ganjam district where one ASHA has disclosed the name of a PLHIV who is very poor and manages his family through a small ration shop in that villege. After disclose of his status  no one taken ration from his shop. After some days  he filed a complaint against that ASHA. After receiving the complaint CDMO formed an enquiry committee and that committee moved to that villege and called an ASHA coordination meeting along with the villege member. After that the villagers’ accept their mistake and took ration from that shop. (Entire process coordinated by DAPCU)

Ganjam Response to Co-ordination among DAPCU

There is 100% need   for DAPCUs to work in coordination with each other.

Areas where DAPCUs Support each other:-
1- Sharing of  Innovative idea  related to leveraging resources from line department/UN Agencies/Corporate/District red cross fund/any  other assisting agencies
2- Sharing and exchange of  new idea/strategies to track MIS cases/LFU of the district as well as outside district.
3- Providing IEC material  during stock out time.
4- Sharing/forwarding communication of OSACS or some time some urgent letter or guidelines of Govt or NACO
Role SACS in enhancing this coordination:-
1- Conducting  periodic Review meeting with all staff of  DAPCUs of all district.
2- Organising  capacity building/training programme of all DAPCUs staff.

Support from other district:-

1- Sharing of   telgu leaflet  help us to distribute in  one telgu dominated  ICTC.
2- Some time any urgent communication from OSACS missed but the same communication forwarded by other DAPCU.
3- DAPCU  Bhadrak  provided the Input to ganjam DAPCU for prepearing the Distritc Annual Work Plan.
4- DAPCU  khorda  shared the PPT of  update of Odisha HIV scenario and it helped for  full site sensitization workshop .

Ganjam , Response to Question of the Month February 2012 - Facilitating Pre ART Registration

This post was in response to the February 2012 theme
Every month we prepare ICTC-wise PLHA line list, along with  details of  Pre ART, On ART registration and CD4 count etc from ART centre. This is collated prior to the monthly monthly meeting.  In the monthly meeting we discuss  gaps and share the data .  (Ganjam had provided a detailed ICTC wise list of found positives vs pre ART registration data for the month of Jan 2012, however we are presenting only the summary on their behalf) 
  • HIV+ve detected (Jan 2012)  - 93
  • Pre ART Reg (Jan 2012)  -  69 (74.2%)
