DAPCU Angul Theme Response for Supportive Supervision

Supervision:
Supervision is a process which provides an opportunity to the individual/supervise e to clarify his doubt, resolve issues at their work place. Overall the supervision process reduce the risk of burnout, enhance work performance which ultimately lead to job satisfaction.

Each alphabet of supervision has its own meaning :

S – Strengthening relationship within the system
U – ultimately ensure welfare of the individual / supervise e
P – Professional skill developed
E- Enhance work performance / emotional support provided
R- Reduce risk of burnout
V- Various work/tasks/issues/problems can be handle.
I – Issues can be comfortably explore / identification of problem.
S – Stress management/strengthening work performance / Satisfaction of job increased.
I- Identify training need
O – Opportunity to clarify & resolve issues
N – New idea & skill incorporated in the workplace.

Overall the supervision process improve the quality of work.

How do you plan and implement your visits for supportive supervision?

At the starting of each month the DAPCU staff prepared the advance tour/visit plan to various workplace/facilities and submitted to the same to District AIDS Control Officer (DACO)/ Asst. District Medical Officer (PH) for approval. After approval of tour plan the DAPCU staff visited various workplace. DACO also take approval of his tour plan from CDMO and visits workplace as per plan.

During supervision to various facilities, the consumables, report formats, IEC materials, testing kits, condoms etc. was also provided to various facilities as per their requirement.  During visit their record, reports was verified and cross checked and accordingly feedback was given. During visit the DAPCU staff met the concerned department heads / other line department staffs for strengthening the work performance.

Besides these the DAPCU staff identify their problem/training need/clarify their doubt, provide new idea & try their best for  stress  management     of individual staffs. At the end of the month the DAPCU staff submitted their tour report to DACO/ADMO (PH) and DACO submit his tor report to CDMO for approval and submit a copy to SACS. Again the problems of different facilities, discussed at monthly Review cum co-ordination meeting / DHS review meeting and try  their best   to solve the said problems.
What should DAPCUs keep in mind while undertaking supervision?

·         First give respect to the individual / supervise e.
·         Promote safety & well being of the individual / supervise e.
·         Maintain shared confidentiality.
·         Provide feedback to the performance of the individual / supervise e.
·         Maintain profession boundaries.
·         First we collect information in work done and finish with suggestion to work in future.
·         During observation of counseling session following points are given more important :
o   Ask the counselor to take consent from the client before observing the session.
o   Explain the purpose of observing the session.
o   Assure the client that the information shared by him/her will be kept confidential.
o   Observe the session.
o   Thanks the client
o   Let the client to go.
o   Ask the counselor about her/his opinion of the session.
o   Then we give feedback and appreciate the positive aspects of the counselor.
o   In various hot spots accept the client as a worthy person and give respect to the client and shared information/create awareness etc.

  •         Don’t give advise, moralistic, judgment, criticize, blame, scolded, threatened, arguing & also do not show supremacy.

        ·         Speak slowly, audible tone                                                
  •                Don’t speak with unpleasant tone / voice

        ·         Strengthen relationship within the system          
  •                 Don’t irritated

        ·         Provide emotional support
  •                 Don’t create misunderstanding among staff.

        ·         Identify problem/ training need & resolve issues
  •                  Don’t give vague assurance.

        ·         Clarify doubt

        ·         Incorporated new idea in workplace.
